Lithium hydroxide monohydrate is a strong base, and its chemical properties are more similar to those of group 2 hydroxides in the periodic table of elements, but quite different from those of group 1 hydroxides. It is a white tetragonal crystal with strong corrosiveness and irritation to skin, melting point of 450ºC and relative density of 1.46. The decomposition temperature is 924ºC. Slightly soluble in ethanol, soluble in water, but less soluble than other alkali metal hydroxides. The monohydrate is obtained after moisture absorption in air or crystallization in aqueous solution. React with acid gases such as sulfur dioxide, hydrogen chloride and hydrogen cyanide. It can also react completely with strong acid or weak acid in aqueous solution. Absorb carbon dioxide in the air to generate lithium carbonate.
